This article discusses President Joko Widodo’s successful leadership based on the Social Progress Index (SPI), which assesses social well-being. The SPI is compiled by the Social Progress Imperative and measures a nation’s social performance through various indicators such as basic human needs, well-being, and opportunities.
According to the SPI, Indonesia has shown improvement in its social welfare under Jokowi’s leadership, with the score rising from 61.65 in 2014 to 67.22 in 2023, and the ranking improving from 92nd to 80th globally. This improvement signifies strides in addressing fundamental needs, expanding access to education and healthcare, and improving economic opportunities.
While challenges remain in terms of equality and environmental protection, Indonesia’s improved SPI score and ranking suggest that the country is on the right path towards enhancing social welfare. The report concludes that Jokowi’s 10 years in office can be considered successful, but more effort is needed to achieve social equality and justice across all regions of Indonesia.
