Prof. Hikmahanto Juwana, an International Relations observer, appreciates the concrete actions taken by the Indonesian government through Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto to help address the emergency situation in Gaza, Palestine. He believes that Indonesia is the most concrete country in assisting Gaza.
He pointed out Prabowo’s firm speech at the Emergency Summit for Gaza in Amman, Jordan, as a reflection of Indonesia’s readiness to help. Compared to other countries participating in the summit, Indonesia’s stance is deemed the boldest and most sincere.
Hikmahanto stated that Indonesia not only talks but also provides tangible actions, such as being prepared to accommodate 1,000 patients and students to receive medical treatment and education in Indonesia. This, he believes, might concern the US and Israel.
“So I see Indonesia’s courage will be observed by other countries, not just mere words and empty talk, but actual actions. This is what will make the United States and Israel worry,” Hikmahanto told reporters in Jakarta on Friday (6/14).
He continued, expressing confidence that this action plan could pressure Israel and its ally, the United States, to stop the genocide actions.
“We hope that concern will stop what Israel is doing in Gaza. This is because the United Nations, from the General Assembly to the Security Council, seems powerless against Israel’s atrocities,” he said.
Therefore, Hikmahanto hopes that Indonesia’s concrete steps through Prabowo at the Jordan summit can be followed by other countries.
“I hope what Pak Prabowo has done will form what we call a humanitarian coalition. What the world needs to stop Israel is humanity. I believe that if we talk about humanity, it will be supported by many parties,” he hoped.
