The Japanese Ambassador to Indonesia, Masaki Yasushi, has shown interest in Prabowo Subianto’s proposed free nutritious meal program for students. Yasushi mentioned that Japan has a long-standing free school lunch program, dating back over 100 years, which has been successful in providing nutritious meals to children.
Yasushi expressed the Japanese government’s eagerness to share their experiences with Indonesia and discuss the importance of education about food and nutrition. He emphasized the need for children to understand the significance of choosing the right foods and nutrients daily.
This initiative by Prabowo and Gibran Rakabuming Raka is set to begin in 2025 and will be implemented in phases. Japan plans to invite the Indonesian government to discuss the program further in September 2024.
