Jakarta — Indonesian Minister of Defense, Prabowo Subianto, stated that African nations consider Indonesia a good example and a model to emulate due to its successful development process.

Prabowo made this statement after meeting with President Joko Widodo at Merdeka Palace on Medan Merdeka Utara Street, Gambir, Jakarta, on Thursday afternoon, June 13, following his return from the Gaza Summit in Amman, Jordan, and a working visit in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

The statement was made by Prabowo when asked by the media about one of the focus areas of the government’s policy program for the 2024-2029 period, which includes expanding and continuing strong cooperation with other countries, including Africa.

“They (Africa) see Indonesia as an example of a successful developing country, a country of the South. Our steps, our courage to implement downstreaming and our stance of always being with the people who are facing difficulties in this world, greatly appeal to them,” explained Prabowo.

He mentioned that many neighboring countries have invited Prabowo, motivated to learn and wanting to send their best sons and daughters to study in Indonesia to gain knowledge.

“So, they often invite me, asking for Indonesia’s help, asking to be educated in Indonesia. I think it is more in that direction,” said Prabowo.

Previously, Prabowo highlighted several points about Africa in an opinion article he wrote that was published in the international media Newsweek on Wednesday, June 12, with the title “The Road Ahead for Indonesia.”

Prabowo emphasized a special focus on Africa, which he described as a continent close to his heart and a land full of opportunities.

However, what Prabowo meant is focusing on partnerships in various matters and fields that can benefit both countries.

“We can support each other, share experiences, and by building synergy and partnerships, work to transform our country,” said Prabowo.
